BRAND 5 Mine
Welkom Winder Services manufactured and supplied a heavy-duty 200kW Duplex Pump Starter Panel housed in a Grade 316 stainless steel enclosure for BRAND 5 Mine in May 2010. The system was developed for the control of high-power pumping equipment in a demanding mining environment, where electrical reliability, equipment protection and enclosure durability are critical to continuous operation. The duplex configuration provides motor-control infrastructure for two pump motors, while the Grade 316 stainless steel construction offers excellent resistance to corrosion and environmental degradation. The completed panel demonstrates Welkom Winder Services' capability to deliver specialised high-power motor-control solutions engineered for demanding industrial and mining applications. A key feature of the system is its Grade 316 stainless steel enclosure, selected for its excellent corrosion resistance and suitability for demanding operating environments where conventional steel enclosures may deteriorate more rapidly. At this power level, careful consideration of motor starting, electrical protection, thermal management, component selection and enclosure design is essential. The completed panel therefore represents a substantial industrial motor-control solution rather than a conventional small-scale pump starter.
Controlling large 200kW pump motors requires significantly more sophisticated electrical engineering than conventional low-power pump applications. High motor-starting currents, heat generation, equipment protection requirements and demanding environmental conditions all need to be considered during the design and manufacture of the motor-control system. The use of a Grade 316 stainless steel enclosure further enhances the system's suitability for harsh environments by providing superior corrosion resistance and long-term enclosure durability.

Delivered a specialised high-power motor-control solution demonstrating capability to engineer equipment for demanding industrial and mining applications
A 200kW duplex pump starter panel is a heavy-duty electrical motor-control system designed to manage two high-power pump motors. Unlike a conventional single-pump starter, a duplex system provides electrical control infrastructure for two independent pumps, allowing the pumping installation to be configured around operational requirements such as duty sharing, redundancy or coordinated operation. At a power rating of 200kW, motor starting requires careful engineering because high starting currents can place substantial stress on electrical infrastructure and mechanical equipment. Industrial systems of this scale can therefore employ appropriate reduced-voltage or controlled-starting technologies depending on the application's design requirements. The motor-control panel also provides the infrastructure required for electrical protection, isolation, control and safe operation of the pumping equipment.

Engineered for demanding 200kW pumping applications.
Provides motor-control infrastructure for two independent pumping units.
Grade 316 stainless steel provides superior protection in demanding environments.
Industrial motor-control architecture supports safe and reliable operation of valuable pumping equipment.
Designed for demanding mining and industrial operating conditions.
High-quality enclosure construction supports extended service life.
Grade 316 stainless steel provides significantly improved corrosion resistance compared with conventional mild-steel enclosures and is particularly valuable in harsh, wet, chemically aggressive or corrosive operating environments. The presence of molybdenum within Grade 316 stainless steel improves resistance to pitting and corrosion, helping protect sensitive electrical components and supporting longer enclosure service life.
A duplex pump-control system provides electrical control infrastructure for two pump motors within a coordinated system. Depending on the specific control philosophy, duplex systems can support various configurations.
