Harmony Target 3 Shaft
Welkom Winder Services designed, installed and commissioned a Bearing Temperature Monitoring Panel for the mine winder system at Harmony Target 3 Shaft. The project formed part of the mine's critical safety infrastructure, providing continuous real-time monitoring of bearing temperatures to protect essential winder equipment against overheating and mechanical failure. By implementing an intelligent monitoring solution, operators are able to detect abnormal operating conditions at an early stage, significantly reducing the risk of equipment damage, costly downtime and unplanned production interruptions. The completed system improved operational reliability while supporting predictive maintenance practices and ensuring safe, continuous mine winder operation.
Critical mine winder bearings required continuous real-time temperature monitoring to protect against overheating, mechanical failure and unplanned downtime
Designed, manufactured and commissioned a specialised Bearing Temperature Monitoring Panel with RTD/Pt100 sensors, alarm configuration and automatic shutdown logic
Improved operational reliability with early fault detection, supporting predictive maintenance and ensuring safe, continuous mine winder operation
A Mine Winder Bearing Temperature Monitoring Panel is a specialised industrial control system designed to continuously monitor the operating temperature of bearings within critical mine winder machinery. Using high-accuracy temperature sensors such as RTDs (Pt100) or thermocouples, the system continuously measures bearing temperatures in real time and provides operators with immediate feedback through the control system. If temperatures exceed predefined operating limits, the system automatically generates warning alarms. In critical situations, it can initiate an automatic shutdown to prevent catastrophic bearing failure and protect valuable mining equipment. The monitoring panel also records operational temperature data, enabling predictive maintenance strategies that reduce unplanned downtime, extend equipment life and improve overall plant reliability.

Provides real-time monitoring of critical mine winder bearing temperatures.
Detects abnormal temperature increases before mechanical failures occur.
Initiates alarms and automatic shutdowns when dangerous operating conditions are detected.
Supports planned maintenance through historical temperature trending and condition monitoring.
Protects expensive bearings and rotating equipment from premature failure.
Reduces the risk of overheating, fires and catastrophic equipment damage within critical mining operations.
